Who Is Jesus Christ?
The message of salvation cannot be separated from the identity of Jesus Christ. He is God’s answer to humanity’s separation not as merely a new philosophy, moral code, political system, or religious institution.Before the birth of Jesus, the angel declared:
“She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
— Matthew 1:21
Throughout the Holy Scriptures, to save means more than escaping punishment. It carries the meaning of rescue, deliverance, forgiveness, preservation, restoration, healing, liberation, and being made whole through the redeeming work of God. Jesus Christ is not merely a religious teacher, prophet, philosopher, reformer, miracle worker, or moral example.
According to the Holy Scriptures, He is the eternal Word, the Son of God, the visible image of the invisible God, and the One through whom all things were created and continue to exist.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” — John 1:1
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created.” — Colossians 1:15–16
The eternal Son of God entered human history by becoming truly human. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived among humanity, revealed the character and will of the Father, taught the truth, showed compassion, confronted hypocrisy and injustice, healed the sick, delivered the oppressed, forgave sins, and lived without sin.
Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross as the sacrifice for human sin. He was buried and rose bodily from the dead. His resurrection declared His victory over sin, death, and the powers of darkness.
He ascended into heaven, reigns as Lord, intercedes for His people, and will return to judge evil, raise the dead, and establish the fullness of God’s kingdom.
Jesus said:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6
Christianity does not proclaim that Jesus merely shows humanity one possible way to God. It proclaims that reconciliation with God is found in Jesus Christ because He alone accomplished what humanity could never accomplish for itself.
He is the Savior because He died for our sins.
He is Lord because He rose from the dead and reigns.
He is the Mediator because He reconciles humanity to God.
He is the Way because through Him we come to the Father.
He is the Truth because He perfectly reveals God.
He is the Life because eternal life is found in Him.
To Those Who Already Believe
Believing that Jesus exists is not the same as faithfully following Him.
Jesus calls believers beyond religious identity, church attendance, intellectual agreement, or public confession. He calls His people to know Him, love Him, obey His Word, walk by the Holy Spirit, become like Him, and participate in His mission.
The Gospel calls every believer to examine whether Jesus Christ is merely part of their life or truly Lord over their life.
“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”
— John 10:27
To Those Who Do Not Yet Believe
You are not required to pretend that you have no questions. You may be uncertain, wounded, disappointed by religion, unfamiliar with Christianity, or unconvinced by what you have previously heard.
The invitation is not to accept religious pressure or place blind trust in human institutions. The invitation is to seek the truth about Jesus Christ Himself.
Read His words. Examine His life, claims, death, and resurrection. Ask God sincerely to reveal the truth to you.
Jesus declared:
“The one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”
— John 6:37
God’s invitation extends to every nation, culture, race, language, social class, and generation:
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
— Romans 10:13
Salvation begins with the grace of God and is received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
Faith is more than acknowledging that Jesus once existed. It is trusting who He is and what He has accomplished through His death and resurrection.
Repentance is more than feeling sorry or fearing consequences. It is a sincere turning of the heart and life away from sin and self-rule towards God.
Receiving Jesus as Lord means surrendering your claim to rule your own life independently of God. Receiving Him as Saviour means trusting His saving work rather than your goodness, religious activity, achievements, or personal efforts.
Scripture declares:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
— Romans 10:9
This confession must not be reduced to empty words. A person is not saved by correctly repeating a prayer while remaining unwilling to trust or follow Christ.
We are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Prayer is a sincere way of expressing that repentance, faith, surrender, and dependence upon Him.
What Happens When You Receive Christ?
When you genuinely turn to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith:
- God forgives your sins.
- You are reconciled to Him.
- You are justified through faith.
- You receive new spiritual life.
- You are brought out of darkness and into Christ’s kingdom.
- The Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you.
- You become part of God’s family.
- God begins transforming your life.
- You receive the hope of resurrection and eternal life.
- You are called to follow Jesus as His disciple.
This does not mean that every struggle immediately disappears. It means that you no longer face life, temptation, suffering, growth, or spiritual conflict alone. God is present with you, and His Spirit begins working within you.
Your Past Does Not Place You Beyond God’s Mercy
The world may have defined you by your achievements, failures, wounds, possessions, nationality, education, social standing, imprisonment, addiction, reputation, rejection, or shame.
You may be wealthy or poor, respected or despised, free or imprisoned, healthy or sick, married or single, confident or afraid. You may have harmed others, been harmed by others, wandered far from God, or lived without knowing Him.
None of these conditions makes salvation unnecessary, and none places a repentant person beyond the mercy of Jesus Christ.
Christ receives those who come to Him sincerely.
Your past may explain part of your story, but it does not have to determine your eternal identity. In Jesus Christ, you can be forgiven, cleansed, reconciled, restored, and made new.
“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17
A Prayer of Repentance and Faith
The words of this prayer cannot save you by themselves. Jesus Christ saves. Pray sincerely as an expression of your repentance, faith, and surrender to Him.
Lord God,
I come before You acknowledging that You are holy and that I have sinned against You.
I cannot save myself through my goodness, achievements, religion, or personal efforts.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died for my sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead.
I repent of my sins and turn towards You.
Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new.
I receive You as my Savior, and I confess You as Lord over my life.
I surrender myself to You. Teach me to follow You, obey Your Word, and live according to Your will.
Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Guide me, transform me, and empower me to live as Your disciple.
Thank You for Your grace, forgiveness, and gift of eternal life.
I place my faith and hope in Jesus Christ alone.
Amen.
In Your name, Jesus Christ, I ask You to fill me with the Holy Spirit—to dwell within me, guide me, teach me, transform me, and empower me to live this new life in Christ(as written in Luke 11:13, John 14:16–17, and Acts 2:38). Holy Spirit, You are welcome in my life. Guide me into truth, help me to obey the Word of God, and lead me to a faithful, Bible-centred, Holy Spirit-filled church where I can worship, grow, serve, and become a mature disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Salvation Is the Beginning
Salvation is not the end of God’s purpose for your life. It is the beginning of a new life with God.
Jesus does not only call people to make a decision. He calls them to become disciples.
A disciple learns from Jesus, obeys His teaching, grows through the Holy Spirit, belongs to the fellowship of believers, serves others, resists sin, proclaims the Gospel, and helps future generations know and follow Christ.
After turning to Jesus Christ:
- Begin reading the Holy Scriptures, starting with one of the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John.
- Speak to God regularly through prayer.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and obey God’s Word.
- Find a faithful, Bible-centred Christian church where Jesus Christ is honored.
- Be baptized as an expression of faith and obedience to Christ.
- Build relationships with mature followers of Jesus.
- Turn away from practices that oppose God’s will.
- Share what Jesus Christ has done in your life.
- Continue growing as a faithful disciple.
Do not build your assurance merely upon the memory of saying a prayer. Build your life upon Jesus Christ, His finished work, His promises, and the continuing evidence of His transforming grace within you.
