SALVATION

Salvation refers to the deliverance from sin and its consequences through faith in Jesus Christ. It involves being rescued from spiritual death and receiving eternal life with God. Salvation is central to the message of the Bible and is offered to all humanity as a gift from God through grace.

The Gospel (good news) to you, family, friends, and the world is:

  • God’s love for you and His desire for a relationship with Him.
  • Sin separates you from God.
  • Jesus died and rose again to bridge that gap.
  • By grace through faith in Jesus, you can receive salvation and eternal life.
  • The gospel of salvation specifically refers to the message of God's redemption through Jesus Christ.

Deliverance, Renewal, Transformation and Restoration as a result of salvation.

Deliverance: It’s about Freedom from bondage to sin, demonic oppression, or past strongholds. As written “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness...” (Colossians 1:13). After salvation, deliverance often addresses spiritual hindrances preventing a believer from fully walking in freedom.

Renewal: It’s about Renewing of the mind and alignment with God’s truth. As written “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind...” (Romans 12:2). This involves a process of sanctification where old thought patterns are replaced by Godly perspectives.

Transformation: It’s about the Manifestation of spiritual growth and a Christ-like life. It’s written “And we all... are being transformed into His image...” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Therefore, transformation is the evidence of renewal working in a believer's life, leading to visible change in character and actions.

Restoration: This involves healing and restoration of God’s original purpose for one’s life. As according to God’s promise “I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten...” (Joel 2:25). Therefore, restoration encompasses emotional, relational, physical, and spiritual wholeness.

Salvation is more than a package of Deliverance, renewal, transformation and restoration.

WATER BAPTISM AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO A BELIEVER.

Baptism holds significant spiritual and symbolic importance for those who believe in Jesus Christ. While it is not a means of salvation, it is an act of obedience, a public declaration of faith, and a representation of profound spiritual truths.

Baptism is an essential step for believers as it aligns with Christ’s example, His command, and the teachings of Scripture. It is a joyful celebration of the believer’s new life in Christ and their identification with His death and resurrection. Though salvation comes by faith alone, baptism enriches the believer’s faith journey and strengthens their testimony to others.

Baptism is obedience to Christ’s Command: Jesus commanded His disciples (including us) to baptize those who believed in Him: Matthew 28:19-20: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Baptism is a step of obedience to Christ's directive, demonstrating submission to His lordship.

Baptism is a public Declaration of Faith: Baptism serves as an outward expression of an inward transformation. It is a public testimony of a believer's faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to follow Him. By being baptized, believers identify themselves as part of the body of Christ and openly declare their allegiance to Him.

Baptism is a symbol of Union with Christ: Baptism symbolizes the believer's union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. Romans 6:3-4: "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." The immersion in water represents dying to sin and the old way of life, while emerging from the water signifies being raised to new life in Christ.

Baptism is a sign of Cleansing and Forgiveness: Baptism represents the washing away of sins. Acts 22:16: "And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on His name." Though symbolic, it reminds believers of the spiritual cleansing they receive through Jesus' sacrifice and the forgiveness of sins.

Baptism is identification with the Body of Christ: Baptism signifies a believer’s entrance into the community of faith. 1 Corinthians 12:13: "For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit." It unites believers with the Church, the global body of Christ.

Baptism is an act of Faith and Commitment: Baptism is a personal decision that reflects faith in Jesus and commitment to live for Him. It is a proclamation of turning away from the old life of sin and embracing the new life empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Repentance and baptism demonstrate a heart open to receiving God's Spirit.
  • By Asking in Prayer: Jesus taught that believers could ask for the Holy Spirit.
Luke 11:13: This involves a sincere desire for God's presence and guidance.
  • By Surrendering and Yielding to God: The Holy Spirit fills those who are fully surrendered to God.
Ephesians 5:18: This involves submitting one’s life, decisions, and desires under God’s control.
  • Through the Word of God: The Word of God activates faith and the work of the Spirit.
    Romans 10:17:

Signs of Receiving the Holy Spirit:

  • A transformed life (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • Growth in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Empowerment for ministry and witnessing (Acts 1:8).
  • A deeper awareness of God's presence and guidance.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE CROSS

Jesus's Blood: The cost of redemption, cleansing, and forgiveness.
The Cross: The method of sacrifice, reconciliation, and divine love. Together, they represent the core of the Christian message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

The Role of Jesus's Blood

  • Atonement for Sin (Payment for Sin):
Leviticus 17:11: "For the life of the flesh is in the blood...it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul."
Jesus's blood was the fulfillment of Old Testament sacrifices, providing a perfect and final payment for sin (Hebrews 9:12).
  • Forgiveness of Sins:
Ephesians 1:7: "In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins."
The shedding of His blood satisfied God's justice, allowing sinners to be forgiven.
  • Cleansing from Sin:
1 John 1:7: "The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin."
His blood not only forgives but also purifies the believer's conscience and life from the power of sin (Hebrews 9:14).
  • New Covenant:
Luke 22:20: During the Last Supper, Jesus said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood."
His blood established a new relationship between God and believers, marked by grace and direct access to God, replacing the Old Covenant sacrifices.
  • Victory Over Satan and Death:
Revelation 12:11: Believers overcame the enemy "by the blood of the Lamb."
His blood symbolizes spiritual victory over sin, death, and Satan's power.

The Role of the Cross

  • Sacrifice and Substitution:
Jesus's death on the Cross was a substitutionary sacrifice where He took the punishment for humanity's sins (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24).
  • Redemption:
The Cross was the means by which Jesus redeemed humanity from the bondage of sin (Galatians 3:13).
  • Demonstration of God's Love:
Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
The Cross is the ultimate expression of divine love and mercy.
  • Reconciliation with God:
Colossians 1:20: "And through Him to reconcile all things...by making peace through His blood, shed on the Cross."
The Cross bridges the separation between a holy God and sinful humanity.
  • Victory Over Evil:
Colossians 2:15: "Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the Cross."
Jesus's death defeated the power of sin and death, reclaiming authority.

How to Learn and Respond to the Blood and the Cross

  • Faith and Trust: Believers are called to trust in the finished work of Christ (Romans 10:9).
  • Repentance: Turning away from sin and receiving forgiveness through the blood of Jesus (Acts 3:19).
  • Communion: The bread and wine in the Lord's Supper represent His body and blood (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
  • Living a Transformed Life: Carrying one's own cross means living in self-denial and following Christ's example (Luke 9:23).

THE ROLE OF RESURRECTION

The resurrection of Jesus Christ profoundly impacts humanity in multiple ways. It serves as the cornerstone of salvation, hope, and victory over sin and death. Here's an exploration of the personal significance of Jesus' resurrection for humanity:

The resurrection is not just a historical event but a living hope for all of humanity, offering forgiveness, transformation, and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Victory Over Sin and Death: 1 Corinthians 15:55-57; Romans 6:4-7

  • Empowerment Through the Holy Spirit: John 16:7; Acts 1:8
  • Assurance of Christ's Return and Final Judgment: Acts 1:11; Acts 17:31

HOW DO YOU WORK OUT/WALK IN YOUR SALVATION

You can work out or walk in your salvation, become a witness, and grow as a disciple by actively living out your faith through obedience, spiritual growth, and sharing the message of Christ. Here's how these concepts can be understood and applied:

  • To Work Out/Walk in Salvation: Grow spiritually by pursuing holiness, prayer, and surrender to God’s will.
  • Be a Witness: Share your faith boldly through personal testimony and godly living.
  • Be a Disciple: Follow Jesus, learn His teachings, apply them, and help others grow in faith.

NOTE: Transformation begins with personal faith in Jesus, grows through spiritual disciplines, and extends outward through sharing Christ and making disciples.

WORKING OUT YOUR SALVATION

(Philippians 2:12-13)

Working out your salvation does not mean earning salvation but rather living out the reality of being saved through Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift of grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), but it requires a faithful response and understanding of its foundation.

  • Salvation is by Grace: Begins with faith in Jesus' finished work on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9). Once saved, believers are called to grow and mature in faith.
  • Pursue Holiness and Righteousness:
    • Sanctification: Continual growth in Christlikeness through the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

    • Forgiveness and Compassion: Living out Christ’s teachings on love and forgiveness (Colossians 3:13).

THE WORD OF GOD, PRAYER AND FASTING

(The lifeblood, veins and purification system of a believer)

The Word of God, Prayer, and Fasting are essential spiritual disciplines in the life of a believer. Each plays a unique role in spiritual growth, deepening a believer's relationship with God, and empowering them to live a victorious believer's life.

The Word of God, Prayer, and Fasting can be summarized as the lifeblood, veins, and purification system of a believer's spiritual life:

  • The Word of God (Lifeblood): Just as blood carries oxygen and nutrients to sustain physical life, the Word nourishes, strengthens, and sustains spiritual life by providing truth, wisdom, and the foundation for faith (Matthew 4:4).
The Word of God: Reveals truth, nourishes the spirit, and guides decisions.
  • Prayer (Veins and Arteries): Prayer serves as the circulatory system, connecting believers directly to God. It keeps the spiritual life active by maintaining constant communication with God, much like how veins transport blood to keep the body functioning (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Prayer: Builds relationship with God, provides strength, and invites divine intervention.
  • Fasting (Purification System): Fasting acts like the body’s purification and detox system, removing distractions and fleshly desires while enhancing spiritual sensitivity. Just as the body cleanses toxins, fasting helps believers focus on God and seek spiritual clarity (Joel 2:12).
Fasting: Deepens spiritual focus, strengthens prayer, and fosters humility before God.

Together, the Word, Prayer, and Fasting work in harmony to nourish, connect, and purify a believer's spiritual life, promoting growth, strength, and closeness with God.

The Importance of the Word of God in a Believer's Life

The Word of God (Scripture) is the foundation of a christian believer's faith and practice. It reveals God's character, His promises, and His instructions for life. The Word of God is vital for spiritual growth, wisdom, protection against sin, and guidance for righteous living.

  • Reveals God's Truth and Will: The Bible is God's direct revelation to humanity, providing divine truth and wisdom (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It reveals God's will for salvation, righteousness, and daily living.
  • Nourishes Spiritual Growth: Scripture is described as spiritual food (Matthew 4:4). It strengthens faith, renews the mind, and transforms the heart (Romans 12:2).
  • Builds Faith: "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." (Romans 10:17) Reading and meditating on the Word strengthens faith and trust in God.
  • Guides and Directs: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105) The Word provides wisdom for making life decisions and discerning right from wrong.

  • Guides and Directs: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105) The Word provides wisdom for making life decisions and discerning right from wrong.
  • Guards Against Sin: "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." (Psalm 119:11) The Word acts as a moral compass, keeping believers from sin.
  • Equips for Spiritual Battles: The Word is described as the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). It is a weapon against spiritual deception and temptation (Matthew 4:1-11).

The Importance of Prayer in a Believer's Life

Prayer is the believer’s direct communication with God, essential for spiritual vitality and personal growth. Prayer is essential for personal relationship with God, spiritual strength, guidance, and emotional peace.

  • Builds a Personal Relationship with God: Prayer fosters intimacy with God, allowing believers to draw closer to Him (James 4:8). It strengthens the believer's connection and dependence on God.
  • Aligns the Heart with God's Will: Jesus modeled praying for God's will to be done (Matthew 6:10). Through prayer, believers align their desires with God's purpose.
  • Invites God's Intervention and Power: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find." (Matthew 7:7) Prayer invites God to move in situations, provide healing, and perform miracles (James 5:16).
  • Provides Peace and Comfort: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer...present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6-7) Prayer brings peace in times of stress and worry.
  • Strengthens Faith and Dependence on God: Regular prayer helps believers trust God's plan and rely on His strength. It reminds believers that God is sovereign and in control.
  • Engages in Spiritual Warfare: Prayer is part of the spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:18). Jesus taught His disciples to pray for protection from temptation and evil (Matthew 6:13).

The Importance of Fasting in a Believer's Life

Fasting is the voluntary abstinence from food (or other activities) for spiritual purposes. It is often combined with prayer for deeper spiritual focus. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that enhances prayer, fosters humility, and helps believers focus on God with greater clarity.

  • Deepens Focus on God: Fasting helps believers shift their focus from physical needs to spiritual matters (Matthew 6:16-18). It is a way to seek God’s presence and guidance more intentionally.
  • Strengthens Prayer Life: Fasting amplifies the power of prayer by demonstrating sincerity and spiritual hunger for God (Ezra 8:23). It helps remove distractions and increases spiritual sensitivity.
  • Empowers for Spiritual Breakthrough: Some spiritual battles require prayer and fasting for victory (Matthew 17:21). Fasting can be a tool for breaking strongholds and seeking deliverance.
  • Develops Spiritual Discipline and Self-Control: Fasting helps believers learn self-control and resist fleshly desires (Galatians 5:16-17). It teaches discipline in denying physical cravings for spiritual growth.
  • Brings Clarity in Decision-Making: Many biblical figures fasted when seeking God’s direction (Acts 13:2-3). Fasting can create space to hear God more clearly in times of decision.
  • Fasting Increases Spiritual Sensitivity: Fasting denies the physical to strengthen the spiritual. Combined with prayer and Scripture, it brings focus and clarity in seeking God.

Become a Disciple of Christ

(Matthew 28:19-20)

As a disciple, you must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ who seeks to grow spiritually and help others do the same by doing the following:

Jesus Christ to Both Believers and Non-Believers

Jesus views both believers and non-believers with love, compassion, and a call to transformation, emphasizing that no one is superior but all are equally in need of His grace. Jesus stands as the central figure for salvation, transformation, and eternal hope for both groups, inviting all to accept Him and experience life in His fullness.

Jesus teaches that all people—both believers and non-believers—are equally loved and valuable before God. Believers are not superior but are called to humbly share the Gospel and serve as disciples, reflecting Christ’s grace and love to all.

For a believer, Jesus Christ is central to their faith and relationship with God. He is the foundation, guide, and source of eternal life, leading to a life of faith, obedience, and purpose.

For a non-believer, Jesus Christ represents the invitation to salvation and the truth of God's love, but also a warning of judgment for those who reject Him: Jesus is a compassionate Savior offering grace and forgiveness but also a righteous Judge calling for repentance and faith in Him.

To the Believer:

  • Savior and Redeemer: Jesus is the one who paid for their sins through His death and resurrection (Romans 5:8). His sacrifice brings forgiveness and eternal life (John 3:16).
  • Lord and King: Jesus is the authority and ruler of their life, guiding their decisions and actions (Luke 6:46). Believers are called to live in obedience to His teachings (John 14:15).
  • Friend and Advocate: Jesus offers intimacy and friendship (John 15:15). He intercedes for believers at the right hand of the Father (Romans 8:34).
  • Source of Strength and Life: Jesus provides spiritual nourishment and sustains faith (John 6:35). Believers draw strength and purpose from Him (Philippians 4:13).
  • Example of Righteous Living: Jesus models a life of love, humility, and obedience (1 Peter 2:21). Believers are called to reflect His character (Galatians 2:20).
  • Eternal Hope and Security: Jesus is the promise of eternal life and the assurance of resurrection (John 11:25).

Non-Believer: Jesus is Savior Offered, Truth Revealer, and Righteous Judge

(Savior, Judge, and Invitation)

  • Savior Offered: Jesus died for all, including non-believers, offering salvation and forgiveness (John 3:16). He invites all to come to Him for reconciliation with God (Matthew 11:28).
  • Revealer of Truth: Jesus reveals the truth of God’s love, holiness, and justice (John 14:6). His teachings expose sin and the need for repentance (John 16:8).
  • Hope and Mercy: Jesus offers hope for those burdened by sin, promising mercy and grace (1 Timothy 1:15-16).
  • Judge and Standard of Righteousness: For those who reject Him, Jesus will be the final judge (John 12:48). His life and words serve as the standard for accountability before God (Acts 17:31).
  • Invitation to Repentance: Jesus calls non-believers to repentance and faith in Him (Mark 1:15).

KNOW WHO IS JESUS CHRIST AND WHY SHOULD BELIEVE IN HIM AS YOUR LORD, SAVIOR, WAY, TRUTH, AND LIFE.

Who is Jesus According to the Holy Bible:

Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity, as the Son of God, the Messiah (Christ), the Savior of all humanity, and God incarnate (God in human flesh).

Jesus Christ is described by many titles because He fulfills multiple divine roles simultaneously. Each title or role is an expression of His identity and mission. Far from being arbitrary, these titles reveal how Jesus is uniquely equipped to meet humanity's spiritual needs and fulfill God’s eternal plan. Thus, Jesus represents God in various ways depending on the context, but He is always the same person—God incarnate, the center of God’s plan for creation and redemption.

Jesus Christ is represented and described in various roles and titles according to the situation, assignment, or aspect of His mission being emphasized. Each title or role highlights a specific dimension of His identity, purpose, and relationship with humanity and God the Father.

Jesus fully embodies the nature of God’s omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence (Colossians 2:9) and reveals God to humanity in ways that meet their needs and address specific aspects of salvation, truth, and life. His mission is multifaceted and comprehensive, addressing humanity's need for redemption, guidance, sustenance, judgment, and reconciliation with God.

These roles and titles are not contradictory but rather complementary, together painting a fuller picture of who Jesus is and what He has accomplished. The purposes are:

  • Comprehensive Salvation: Each title reflects a specific aspect of the salvation He offers, addressing every human need—spiritual, moral, and relational.
  • Understanding God: Through these roles, humanity can better understand God’s character—His love, holiness, justice, mercy, and grace.
  • Personal Relationship: The various roles allow individuals to relate to Him personally—whether as a Shepherd guiding them, a Savior redeeming them, or a High Priest interceding for them.

For Example: Roles related to the following:

  • Redemption: Savior and Redeemer.
  • Relationship with Humanity: Good Shepherd and High Priest.

JESUS'S ROLE AND RELATIONSHIP WITH HUMANITY.

Jesus's role and relationship with humanity can be understood through four phases: before creation, during creation, in life, and afterlife.

  • Before Creation: Jesus Christ is Eternal, Co-Creator, and Purposeful Planner of Redemption.
  • During Creation: Jesus Christ is an Active Creator and Sustainer of Life.
  • In Life: Jesus Christ is a Redeemer, Mediator, and Perfect Example.
  • Afterlife: Jesus Christ is the Resurrected Lord, Intercessor, and Eternal King.

Therefore, Jesus's role throughout these stages reflects God's consistent desire for relationship, redemption, and restoration of humanity.

Before Creation - Jesus’s Pre-Existence.

  • Eternal Word (Logos): (John 1:1-3) Jesus was the eternal Word who was with God and was God. He existed before creation and was involved in the divine fellowship with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
  • Creator: (Colossians 1:16) "All things were created through Him and for Him," emphasizing Jesus's active role in creation.
  • Purposeful Plan: (Ephesians 1:4) Humanity was chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world, showing His involvement in God's redemptive plan even before creation.

During Creation

  • Agent of Creation: (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16) Jesus is identified as the agent through whom God created the universe.
  • Sustainer: (Hebrews 1:3) Jesus is described as "sustaining all things by His powerful word," indicating His ongoing involvement in maintaining the created order.

Life and Earthly Ministry (Jesus Dressed in Human Flesh).

  • God Became Man: Jesus took on human flesh (John 1:14) to fully relate to humanity and reveal God's nature and truth.
  • Mediator: As both fully God and fully man (1 Timothy 2:5), Jesus bridged the gap between humanity and God.
  • Savior and Redeemer: His primary mission in life was to save humanity from sin (Luke 19:10). His death on the cross paid the penalty for sin (Romans 5:8).
  • Teacher and Example: Jesus taught God's kingdom principles (Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5-7) and exemplified perfect righteousness.

Scripture Reference: Hebrews 10:5-6: "Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: 'Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offering you were not pleased.'"

Afterlife (Resurrection, Current Role, and Eternal Kingdom).

  • Resurrected Lord: After His death, Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-4), conquering sin and death.
  • Intercessor and High Priest: Currently, Jesus intercedes for believers at the right hand of God (Hebrews 7:25).
  • King of Kings: He reigns as the sovereign King (Revelation 19:16) and will return to establish His eternal kingdom (Revelation 21:1-5).
  • Judge: Jesus will judge all humanity (2 Corinthians 5:10) with justice and righteousness.
